Our Ministries are the place you can find life-giving community.

Christian Education

We have Sunday School classes for everyone following worship at 10:45 AM! Two adult classes meet each week to study God’s Word and how it applies to our lives. One meets in the Ministry Center and one in the Conference Room. Youth and Children meet upstairs in the Education Wing and help our younger folks learn God’s Holy Word.

A Ladies Bible Study meets on Tuesday mornings at 9:45 AM in the Conference Room. After a time of prayer and study many then continue the fellowship by going to lunch at a local restaurant.

Vacation Bible School is held for a week each summer with Bible lessons, crafts, games, singing and of course SNACKS!

Showers of Blessings

FGMUC maintains a small food pantry with canned items and household products for immediate and emergency needs. Simply come by during office hours to utilize this blessing.

Music Ministry

First GMC of Union City has always been blessed with many wonderful singers and musicians who love to share their gift of music to enrich our worship in a variety of ways. Organists/Pianists Cathy Smith and Sue Sturdevant along with our praise band, The Rock of Refuge (directed by Becky Esper & Rosemary Obert) accompany and lead our singing in worship each week. Anthems are offered September through May by our Chancel Choir and our Memorial Handbell Choir. Summer months are filled with special music provided by volunteers from our many musicians and singers.

The foundation of our music ministry has always been our Chancel Choir. The current choir averages 18 voices and is under the direction of Rosemary Obert with accompanist Cathy Smith. Their annual Christmas Cantata is well attended by the greater Union City community and attracts singers from the community as well.

Nurture, Outreach, Witness (NOW)

Through the leadership of our NOW committee, we reach out to our church family, our local community, and the world in many ways. And we are always looking for more ways to share the love of God!

Through our Shower of Blessings Ministry, we keep an area in the church stocked with paper and personal hygiene items as well as some basic non-perishable food items to help members of our church family in need of a little assistance. It also provides some resources for community folks in need of emergency assistance.

In our local community we support the Union City Food Pantry and the School Backpack program which sends home food with students that might otherwise go hungry over weekends.

We continue to help sponsor the broadcast of school sporting events that started when spectators were limited. We also support music and drama programs at the school, the yearbook and the student led ministry IMPACT Union City. We assist the Family Support Center in providing Thanksgiving Baskets to local families. We serve as the distribution site for the Union City Ministerium and Second Harvest Food Pantry’s monthly Produce Express.

Twice a year we collect gently used clothing for the Erie United Methodist Alliance’s (EUMA) Rainbow Thrift Store. Each Lenten season, items to make Easter baskets for the children of families that are housed at The Refuge (an EUMA shelter for homeless families) are collected. Year round we collect shoes in all sorts of condition to help raise funds for the EUMA and All God’s Children Ramp Building Ministry.
